Execration - The Act of Cursing and Denouncing
The Cradh series, consisting of Ao Cradh, and Cradh, and their iterations of Beag, Mor, Ard, Dark Seal, and Darker Seal, seems to be the most dubious, as many seem to argue for the Wizard’s fitness to possess the latter – the actual cursing secrets, but not their Ao counterparts. Let us first examine why the Priest and Bard paths currently hold them. It is quite clear, that Priests and Bards are the paths with the majority of status-altering secrets, which cause no direct damage but instead alter a creature’s attributes, whereas the wizards only have one series of such spells – the Nadurs. The Priests have Suain, Pramh, Dall, and others. Secondly, as the dealers of Holy, and Unholy, unholy not being referred to as in virtue of the element of darkness, they are the ones more fit to bear both enchantments and disenchantments – enchantments that affect others negatively, which is exactly why they possess a repertoire of Curses. The case for the Wizard is much weaker, as Curses show no direct relation to the element of darkness – no element altercations, no chaotic nature implied by their effects. Furthermore, as the Wizard is more focused on dealing damage, it would be less fitting of them to possess such a secret.
The case for the Ao counterparts to curses is rather more straightforward, as they affect an ally in a positive way, and Priests, through their compassion, are the central of a group, the part that is most connected to everyone in it, as well as their wellbeing – and as curses affect it negatively, it would be most fitting for the priest to be the one to wield the power to dispel them.
